Critical ‘Chaotic Deputy’ Vulnerabilities in Chaos Mesh Threaten Kubernetes Clusters
Security researchers have discovered multiple critical vulnerabilities, collectively named ‘Chaotic Deputy,’ in the popular chaos engineering platform Chaos Mesh. The flaws (CVE-2025-59358, CVE-2025-59359, CVE-2025-59360, CVE-2025-59361) could allow an attacker with in-cluster access to execute arbitrary code on any pod, potentially leading to a full Kubernetes cluster takeover. Three of the vulnerabilities carry a critical CVSS score of 9.8. The vulnerabilities stem from an unauthenticated GraphQL debugging server in the Chaos Controller Manager, which can be exploited for OS command injection. Users are urged to upgrade to Chaos Mesh version 2.7.3 immediately to patch these issues. The flaws were disclosed by JFrog Security Research on September 15, 2025.
